The Co-op Experience
As part of a Co-operative Preschool, how will I be participating?
As a member of our Co-op preschool, your involvement includes: attending both the annual General (September) and Spring (June) meetings; voting on matters of the school; serving on a Committee or on the Board of Directors; cleaning the school (approximately twice per year); and participating in fundraising initiatives. While the majority of our members are considered “Participating Parents”, we do offer a limited number of “Non-Participating Parents” positions, where you are not responsible for duty days.
The Co-Op Community Outside the Classroom
As member of the LCNS community, there are many activities outside the classroom that you can participate in. There is an annual family party, various field trips, monthly members breakfasts, and a year end party. Serving on our board or committees means working hand and hand with other members and is a fantastic way to partner with other parents to use your talents and learn new skills!
The “duty” parents act as an assistant to the teacher in the classroom approximately 2-3 times per month (scheduled ahead of time). This is a wonderful experience for both parent and child as during their time at school parents are able to observe their children interact with their friends and encounter new and exciting experiences in the classroom environment.
As a duty parent, you may be the parent who: brings and serves a simple snack; assists the teachers in the set-up of the classroom; assists the children in the art centre; goes outside to help supervise during outdoor time; or helps to supervise in the classroom. The duties are rotated in order to be fair to everyone.
For those families who are unable to commit to assisting during the classroom times, we are able to offer a limited number of non-participating positions. These parents will not be scheduled for “duty days”, however they are still required to attend the membership meetings, participate in Committee/Board work, fund raise for the school, and perform school cleanings.
The fees are increased for non-participating positions.
